In Alabama, work comp is a no-fault system for workers injured on the job. It’s a program providing medical care and compensation for injured workers, but does not guarantee return to same job position. #BizChatAL

Any business that has five or more employees is required by law to have coverage. However, there are some exceptions. The employer may obtain workers comp coverage from a local insurance agency. Or, the employer can provide self-insurance if they meet certain guidelines. #BizChatAL

Employer will carry direct medical care from the moment the injury notice has been given, not after treatment has been ongoing. Employer provides either salary or work comp payments. Employer cannot terminate employment based solely on work comp claim. When Employee is returned to work, employer must look to see if they can accommodate restrictions, but do not have to create new job. #BizChatAL
