We've Launched Alabama's First Statewide Business focused Twitter Chat - #BizChatAL  This week we talked Meg Nippers @MegNNippers , Director of Main Street in Scottsboro about the importance of shopping local.

Dollars spent locally cycle straight back into the economy, creating more revenue for schools, roads, bridges, etc. Studies show that for every $100 spent locally, nearly $70 stays local, versus $40 spent at a big box retailer. #BizChatAL

Knowing the person behind the product puts the buyer at ease. Local business’ owners hand-select the products in their stores, so there is a level of trust in their products that isn't found as easily in major retail establishments! #BizChatAL

Purchasing local items creates a healthy ecosystem for makers/entrepreneurs. We are fortunate to have talented makers from right here in North Alabama. These folks purchase local products to make their goods, so it is important to further the local economy by purchasing their goods. #BizChatAL

Local owners/employees have better product knowledge and can answer questions immediately! Also, problems are solved quicker and easier. Usually, the business owner is at the store or just a quick phone call away. There's no need to call a customer service line! #BizChatAL

It’s important to remember that local business owners are engrained in the community. They are the first to donate to the elementary school or give to the baseball team. They are our neighbors and friends and have a vested interest in the community's well-being. It is crucial to support them! #BizChatAL
