Located in Fackler, The Rock Zoo is a charming road-side attraction on a working farm in Jackson County, Alabama. This quirky little stop hosts a variety of colorful, animal-shaped rocks with a neat history.

Amanda of @Adventuringlight stopped and spoke to one of the employees at the farm and asked if it was okay if we took pictures with the animals. Mr. Patterson was very kind and helpful in answering our questions. He assured us that people stop all the time and take pictures with the rocks. He did requests that if you stop by, please don’t block the drive way. This is a working farm and they pull tractors in and out all day. There is a small place to park right next to the road that touches their gravel driveway.

The former owner, known as “Pappi”, began painting rocks about 20 years ago. They acquire rocks from locals around the county, bring them back to the farm and paint them. They have to repaint the rocks every year! Pappi has since passed away, but his loyal family and employees lovingly carry on this tradition.

They currently have their eye on a camel-shaped rock they would like to purchase as their next addition, however the rock owner doesn’t want to sell-bummer! Keep your eye out for animal shaped rocks. I bet they’d be willing to accept some really cool rocks if donated. Can you think of a better life for a rock than to be a proud member of the Fackler Rock Zoo family? We cannot.
