This Jackson County Discipleship School is Transforming Lives

The J-38 School of Discipleship, is a local discipleship school transforming the lives of students for eleven years!

Located in Jackson County Alabama, is a Christ centered educational program responsible for facilitating spiritual change in the lives of the students who attend.

Their goal – “Training in Biblical truth to raise up dedicated followers of Jesus!”

Now in their eleventh year, the J38 School is a fully equipped living/working campus where Pastor Greg and Gretchen DeVries have fostered a biblical environment where fellow Christians can “learn to live in an atmosphere where they have the chance to apply biblical truths, while serving with one another.”

The school’s setting is purposefully fashioned after what you would see in any home. The setting allows students to live in an real world environment that affords the opportunity to become comfortable and acquainted with one another. The school follows a traditional nine month academic year – from September to May – with a main focus being on biblical studies that strengthen their personal relationship with Christ.

“A stop on their journey of life to sure up their foundation of faith.”

Most students are on their own path to ministry, whether it be in the church or on the mission field, and consider the school a foundation practice element allowing them to focus on the discipline of their walk with God. When asked why people to choose to attend their particular school, Associate Pastor D.J. Smith says, “We’ve found that some people who choose J38 have had some kind of past life and looking to shed their old life, and begin fresh. Others may have grown up in a healthy church environment but want to take another step in their pursuit of God.”  Here they work, and serve together in order to get training with a goal to lay down a portion of their life to spend time with Jesus.

“We want to see people succeed in their walk with the Lord, & this training helps build that foundation,” Says Program Director Matt Ward. Here, students learn what it is to be Christian in a controlled environment with the liberty to find who you are a Child of God.

J38 Discipleship team

Student come from all across America to attend all with one goal: to practice being a true biblical disciple of Christ.

Currently, the school is a stand alone program, but with their growing partnerships they are looking to add more programming all built off a simple biblical model: “build up and send out!”

To date, the J38 school is involved with a number of regional partners as they put all they are learning about service into practice.

12 Bushels Food Distribution launched in 2016 with the purpose of driving down hunger by loving the least of these in the greater Jackson County Area.

Through relationships with dozens of charity organizations locally, nationally and around the globe, Unclaimed Baggage Center is able to find uses for more than half of the merchandise not designated for the retail floor.

The Bridge Ministry exists to alleviate the suffering of underprivileged children, the homeless, and the working poor by providing life-sustaining resources and a message of hope.

Our mission is to educate, enable, and empower women and men who find themselves facing an unplanned pregnancy and raise community awareness of our pro-family mission.

Feed America First is a faith-based, 501(c)3 hunger relief organization based out of Murfreesboro, TN. with a mission to provide food to those who feed the hungry.

The J38 Staff are always looking to broaden their scope of service throughout the region. If you think they would make a good service partner, please feel free to reach out to Matt Ward at mward@thewellfwc.org
